Canada · Thoracic outlet syndrome
Claudia Jimenez
Claudia spent more than two years with pain, numbness, and heaviness in her right arm that worsened with everyday activities like driving. In Canada, nerve conduction studies, imaging, and medication trials led nowhere, and she was told it was fibromyalgia. Vascular MRI and provocative Doppler studies showed something else: bilateral thoracic outlet syndrome, both neurogenic and vascular. Dr. Aghayev performed bilateral decompression, removing the first rib and the fibrous bands compressing the nerves and subclavian vessels. She is recovering and steadily improving.
I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Kamran Aghayev and his entire team. After years of dealing with symptoms and struggling to get clear answers from different doctors, Dr. Aghayev immediately recognized what was going on. For the first time, I felt truly listened to and understood. His knowledge and experience with thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) were obvious right away. Under his care, I underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, including first rib removal. This surgery truly changed my life. I am now over a year post-operation and doing better than I ever imagined possible. I still have healing ahead of me, but the improvement in my daily life compared to before the surgery is incredible. I’m deeply grateful for Dr. Aghayev’s skill, professionalism, and dedication to helping patients with complex conditions like TOS. I also want to mention how wonderful the entire team was throughout the process. His assistant Bassam is absolutely amazing — incredibly communicative, kind, and always quick to respond whenever I had questions. Having that level of support made a huge difference during such an important medical journey. And a special thank you to Ahmed, our driver. He was one of the kindest people we met during our time there. He is such a genuine, warm-hearted person and truly made us feel welcomed and cared for. From the medical care to the organization, communication, and support from the entire team, the experience was outstanding. I’m incredibly thankful to Dr. Aghayev and everyone involved in my care. For anyone suffering from thoracic outlet syndrome and searching for a surgeon who truly understands this condition and has the experience to treat it properly, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Kamran Aghayev.

From Canada to Istanbul: Claudia’s Journey to Healing from TOS We recently had the privilege of welcoming Claudia Jimenez Martinez, a determined and courageous patient from Canada, who came to us after years of suffering from debilitating symptoms with no clear diagnosis. For over two years, Claudia experienced severe pain, numbness, tingling, and heaviness in her right arm, symptoms that worsened even with simple activities like driving or sitting. Despite undergoing multiple consultations, nerve conduction studies, imaging tests, and medication trials back in Canada, her condition remained unresolved. She was initially misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia, but her symptoms told a different story. Claudia did not give up. After reviewing her detailed medical history and advanced imaging, including vascular MRI and provocative Doppler studies, our diagnosis was clear: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), affecting both the neurogenic and vascular structures, on both sides. Dr. Kamran Aghayev, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, successfully performed bilateral TOS decompression surgery for Claudia. The procedure involved the removal of the first rib and fibrous bands compressing the nerves and subclavian vessels, allowing full decompression and relief. We are proud to report that Claudia is on the road to recovery and has noticed significant improvement. Her story is a powerful reminder that persistent symptoms deserve persistent investigation—and that healing often begins with hope, expertise, and the courage to seek answers beyond borders. If you’re struggling with similar symptoms and suspect TOS, don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone, and there is a solution.
